Queen Elizabeth II passed away on the afternoon of 8th September 2022, at the Balmoral Castle in Scotland. Her reign lasted for seventy years. Her demise has been mourned deeply across the world. 1. ‘Elizabeth: The Unseen Queen’ (2022)

The television documentary, Elizabeth: the unseen queen was released in 2022. The documentary shows the unseen side of royal life and everyone around her. It was created for the queen’s platinum jubilee. Right from her birth to her royal nuptials with Prince Philip, the film contains actual, surreal moments of her life. It has all the moments from the queen’s life which has never been seen before. 

2. ‘The Crown’ (2016)

Mandatory mention of Netflix’s popular TV show, The Crown. This web series features Claire Foy and Olivia Colman acting out various life stages of queen Elizabeth II. From her royal wedding to the rise of Margaret Thatcher, the series depicts the many conflicts and scandals around the royal family.

This movie showcases teenage Elizabeth who goes on a night out with her sister Margaret, to celebrate Europe’s victory against the Nazis. The movie shows how the queen walks around the street like a civilian and also shows her feelings about being an ordinary woman–always wanted to be carefree. 

4. ‘The King’s Speech’ (2010)

The Academy Award-winning movie, The King’s Speech, narrates the tale of Queen Elizabeth’s father, the future king George VI. His impromptu ascension to the throne of the British Empire in 1936, and the speech therapist who helped the unsure monarch overcome his stammer. Freya Wilson essayed the role of Princess Elizabeth II and her father’s role was played by Colin Firth.  

5. ‘The Queen’ (2006)

This movie captures all of the aftermaths of Princess Diana’s death. It shows the political unrest between the royal family and the prime minister of England, Tony Blaire. Helen Mirren won an Oscar for her titular portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in the 2006 movie, The Queen. Revolving around the events that ensued the demise of the ‘People’s Princess, this one is surely a must-watch.
