As if coronavirus wasn’t enough, we now have something called ‘flurona.’ Doctors in Israel have diagnosed a patient who appears to be suffering from flurona. A rare mixture of the influenza virus and COVID-19 virus. While this is reckoned to be the first documented case, experts believe there are more patients in the province who have not been diagnosed.

A pregnant woman has become the world’s first person to be infected with both COVID-19 and the flu at the same time. On Thursday, the woman tested positive for both viruses at Beilinson Hospital in Petach Tikva, Israel. She is experiencing mild symptoms, and Israeli health officials are analyzing her case to see if the hybrid factors contribute to a more severe illness. ‘She was diagnosed with the flu and coronavirus as soon as she arrived,’ said Professor Arnon Vizhnitser, director of the hospitals’ Gynaecology Department, to Hamodia

The disease is the same as before

‘Both tests came back positive, even after we double-checked. The disease is the same as before. They’re both viral and cause breathing problems because they attack the upper respiratory tract.’ Professor Vizhnitser said: ‘We are seeing more and more pregnant women with the flu. It is definitely a great challenge dealing with a woman who comes in with a fever at childbirth. This is especially when you do not know if it’s coronavirus or the flu. So you refer to them the same. Most of the illness is respiratory.’

The country raised outdoor mask requirements in April. Making them solely mandated for large gatherings, and cases have steadily increased since then. According to data from the Ministry of Health, 5,000 cases had been reported as of Friday. Since the start of the pandemic, Israel has reported 1,376,256 infections and 8,243 coronavirus-related deaths. Provided what has transpired so far in the pandemic, there will be concerns about how far it can circulate. The consequence it can have, and what symptoms people should be aware of.
