Things that are safe to do indoors without a mask: Detailed CDC guidelines

Mask restrictions and social distancing norms are constantly changing. With the rise in the number of vaccinated people, confusion surrounds what is risky and safe to do indoors, without a mask. It’s a lot to unpack but, we’re here to clear it up. These indoor activities are safe according to the new guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Safe activities sans mask for fully vaccinated people:

According to CDC’s new report, it is okay for you to unmask indoors for the following activities:

  • Working out in a gm or high-intensity exercise class
  • Eating indoors at restaurants and bars
  • Singing in an indoor chorus.
  • Attending a worship service in its maximum capacity
  • Visiting a hair salon, barber, masseuse, or make-up artist.
  • Watching a movie in a movie theatre
  • Visiting uncrowded museums.
  • Shopping in a shopping center or mall with less crowding
  • Attending small indoor gatherings with fully vaccinated people from different households.

Although fully vaccinated people are safe and don’t need masks for their safety, places like gyms might ask you to mask up. It also applies to your workplace! It will go a long way in avoiding confusion with others. Just remember to be polite and mask up on your way.

Safe indoor activities for partially vaccinated people:

Remember that immunity only kicks in two weeks after the second dose or only dose in the case of the Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine. So, if you are in between doses, it is always safer to wear your mask. Activities like shopping in less crowded spaces, visiting the salon or barber, museums, indoor get-together, parties, etc. Even though the risks are low, behaving as though you are unvaccinated in all situations may prove helpful.

Are any indoor activities safe without masks?

Activities like visiting a small indoor gathering with fully vaccinated people are slightly safe. It is also okay to go shopping or to uncrowded museums and shopping centers, visiting a hairdresser, etc. But, it is inadvisable and involves risks.

If there is one thing that experts agree with: If you have not got the vaccine, wear your mask in indoor settings.
