The cases of the new Omicron variant have been certainly soaring and are instilling the fear of lockdown among people. In the latest daily figures released by health authorities on Sunday, the United Kingdom reported more than 12,000 additional confirmed cases of the fast-spreading Omicron variant of the coronavirus. The UK Health Security Agency made an announcement on Twitter hat an additional 12,133 confirmation of Omicron had been reported in the previous 24 hours. Bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 37,101.
Earlier this week, the death toll from the Omicron variant in the United Kingdom increased from one to seven. “We’ve shown in the past as a government in dealing with this pandemic that we will do what is necessary. But it’s got to be back up by data,” U.K. Health Secretary Sajid Javid said about the news. The government is intending tighter lockdown restrictions due to the Omicron rise. “We are watching the data and discussing it with our scientists and our best advisers almost on an hourly basis. Will monitor very carefully, and keep the situation under review,” he explained.
