Delta outbreak in China: Worse than before
The highly infectious delta virus is spreading across the county despite the aggressive countermeasures installed by China. In the newest delta outbreak, over 600 locally transmitted covid cases were found in 19 out of 31 provinces. On Wednesday alone China recorded 93 new local cases. Moreover, a large majority of cases were from Henan, Jiangsu, and central Chongqing.
Chongquing, is the newest t join the delta outbreak in China. The city conducted an overnight mass testing, making the best of the ‘golden 24 hours’ after the first detection. On the other hand, in Changzhou inside the Jiangsu province, the government stopped schools, reverting to online classes for the rest of the week.
Extreme covid tactics: The right move?
Additionally, the government officials stated that they are maintaining a ‘Covid Zero’ approach. The government committed to stopping the further evasion of the virus. The same drastic measures used have pushed other countries including Australia and Singapore to focus. However, the extremeness of the measures went as far as to lock down the entire Disneyland park in Shanghai. However, the capital’s total infections are much lesser compared to the situation since before. Additionally, the sales of tickets into the city were stopped in a total of 123 stations across 23 regions. This is allowing the officials to reduce the crowds during the holidays.
According to Zhong Nanshan, China’s top health expert, the country is going to be successful in containing the current within a month. Zhong spent a lot of time aiding the government in quelling outbreaks since the start of th pandemic. Hence, he also has the authority to defend China’s approach and for creating models on how we can coexist with the pandemic.
