Imagine being a parent of a newborn child in COVID-19 times, if that’s not stressful enough, imagine your child getting the wrong vaccine? This unfortunate incident took place at a hospital in Brazil. The 2 infants accidentally received Pfizer covid shots.
Brazilian media informs, two newborns in Brazil were given coronavirus vaccine shots by mistake. They had to be hospitalised. The Uol media outlet informs about the incident. A two-month-old girl and a four-month-old boy were accidentally given a Pfizer shot against COVID-19. The vaccine was a mistake. Instead of a combination immunizing agent against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, and hepatitis B.
Both infants have severe reactions to the Pfizer vaccine. As a result, they were immediately taken under observation. The nurses administering the vaccines are facing indefinite suspension. On the other hand, there is an administrative investigation is underway. Pfizer’s vaccine received approval for use in children as young as five in several countries. In June, Anvisa, Brazil’s health regulator, approved the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for children over the age of 12.
Even though, mistakes can happen to anyone. Certain mistakes can be fatal. Especially, if there are any mistakes related to health care. However, hospital staff and nurses should be extra careful when it comes to children and infants.
