More than half a million beds sold at Walmart and Wayfair are being recalled because they can shatter during use, resulting in scores of injuries. Home Design, Inc. has issued a recall for many models and sizes of upholstered low-profile standard and platform beds. The Silver Lake, Indiana-based furniture distributor says it has received 128 reports of these beds “breaking, sagging, or collapsing” when used, with 36 reported injuries to date. Both Home Design and the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission are asking owners of the recalled beds to cease using them immediately and contact the firm for free replacement slats and side rails.
The recalled beds, which were made in Malaysia, were offered on Wayfair, Walmart.com, and Overstock.com
Consumers can determine whether their bed is being recalled by reviewing the list of impacted models and corresponding part numbers, which can be found on both the CPSC’s Thursday recall notice and Home Design’s website. To get the free repair kit, send Home Design images of the bed or proof of purchase, along with the headboard’s “law label.” The recalled bed(s), which were made in Malaysia, were offered on Wayfair, Walmart.com, and Overstock.com from July 2018 to November 2023. Prices ranged between $100 and $300. The recall affects about 527,000 Home Design beds in the United States and almost 56,000 in Canada.
