Jeff Bezos buys $68 million home on Florida’s 'billionaire bunker'

Jeff Bezos is expanding his rapidly expanding real estate empire with the purchase of a waterfront house in Florida. According to a source familiar with the situation, the Amazon.com Inc. founder and the world’s third-richest person agreed to pay $68 million for an estate in Indian Creek, a man-made barrier island in the greater Miami area. MTM Star International, a Panama-based firm, previously owned the 2.8-acre (1.1-hectare) three-bedroom property, which was built in 1965. According to public documents, the sale occurred in June, but the identity of the final buyer was not disclosed. Previously, the most recent recorded sale was in 1982 for $1.4 million.

The purchase represents a homecoming for Bezos, who graduated from high school in Miami

Real estate values in the neighborhood have risen in recent years, as the location has attracted some of the world’s wealthiest people. Since the outbreak, Ken Griffin, Dan Loeb, and Josh Harris have all purchased luxurious beachfront Miami Beach properties. The purchase represents a homecoming for Bezos, who graduated from high school in Miami after his Cuban-born stepfather took a job there. His parents had real estate in Coral Gables and Miami Beach. He’s also been spending time in the neighborhood. Bezos attended the Miami Grand Prix party in May and was pictured with his now-fiancée Lauren Sanchez that weekend.
