Google co-founder Sergey Brin divorces wife over her alleged affair with Elon Musk: Report

Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google, has discreetly finalized his divorce from Nicole Shanahan, a lawyer and entrepreneur, following rumors that she had an affair with billionaire Elon Musk, according to Page Six. According to court records, the couple’s divorce was finalized on May 26. They will now share physical and legal custody of their 4-year-old daughter.

Shanahan did not contest the divorce, but she requested the court for spousal maintenance, according to the court filings. Other concerns, such as legal costs and asset partition, were handled in private arbitration.

Sergey Brin married Nicole Shanahan in 2018

Notably, the two began dating in 2015, the same year Brin divorced his first wife, Anne Wojcicki, and eventually married Nicole Shanahan in 2018, according to Business Insider.

They separated in 2021 and began living separately, after which Mr. Brin filed for divorce in 2022, alleging ”irreconcilable differences”. He filed for divorce around a month after his wife apparently had a brief romance with Elon Musk, with whom he had been friends for years, according to the New York Post. Mr Musk and Ms Shanahan, on the other hand, both denied their purported affair.

”Sergey and I are friends and were at a party together last night. I’ve only seen Nicole twice in three years, both times with many other people around. Nothing romantic, ” he wrote on X, on July 25, 2022, in response to a Wall Street Journal article titled”Elon Musk’s Friendship With Sergey Brin Ruptured by Alleged Affair”.

Nicole Shanahan’s denial and background

Meanwhile, Ms. Shanahan described the incident as “utterly crippling.” She stated that she was never anything more than Mr Musk’s acquaintance.

”Did Elon and I have sex, like it was a moment of passion, and then it was over? No. Did we have a romantic relationship? No. We didn’t have an affair,” she claimed in July. However, the Wall Street Journal said that they are ”confident in our sourcing, and we stand by our reporting.”

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, the 50-year-old Google co-founder is the ninth richest person in the world, with a net worth of $118 billion. According to her LinkedIn profile, Shanahan, 34, is a California-based attorney and the founder and president of the Bia-Echo Foundation.
