Elon Musk, the owner of social media platform X, announced on Friday (October 20) that it will soon launch two new tiers of premium subscription, one of which will remain cheaper than the existing $8/month X Premium subscription, and the other will be more expensive and will allow users to avoid seeing ads on the social media platform.
“Two new tiers of X Premium subscriptions launching soon. One is lower cost with all features, but no reduction in ads, and the other is more expensive but has no ads,” stated Musk.
Musk did not provide any additional information about the subscription plans. As a test case for using the site, the business began charging new customers $1 in the Philippines and New Zealand earlier this week.
According to the company’s website, new users who did not receive the subscription would only be able to perform “read-only” operations such as watching videos, reading posts, and following accounts.
Subscription method ‘Not A Bot’
The “Not A Bot” membership technique on the social media platform aims to manipulate bot activity and the site while eliminating spam.
Since Elon Musk took over the site in October 2022, his quick reforms, which included disbanding content moderation teams and large layoffs, have resulted in advertisers ceasing to use the service.
Musk said that the platform’s revenue has suffered, and he blamed activists for putting pressure on advertisers.
To generate revenue, Musk began charging $8 per month for the recently launched blue check subscription program, which offered discounts to entice advertisers back to X.
Twitter Blue subscriptions in India cost Rs. 900 per month for both iOS and Android devices. The price for the web was 650 per month.
Buyers can also opt for an annual subscription, which costs $6,800 on the web. The annual subscription for X on iOS and Android is $9,400 per year.
