Coming soon, gold, grey and blue checks on Twitter, Musk to launch the ‘Verified’ feature next week

Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, announced in a post on Friday that the “Verified” feature may perhaps go live the following week. Musk made the decision earlier this week to delay the reintroduction of the “Blue Verified” badge until there is strong assurance that imitation has been stopped. The social media platform will use various color checks for businesses and people, as Musk had previously hinted.

“Gold check for companies, grey check for governments, blue for individuals (celebrities or not). Painful, but necessary,” Musk said in a tweet.

Twitter implemented only the grey tick for media and governmental organizations in order to distinguish between various accounts

The company had to temporarily stop using the subscription model after the initial launch because bogus accounts started receiving the blue tick verification symbol. A relaunch had previously been scheduled for November 29. Although provisionally, Musk will start the service on December 2.

Additionally, Twitter implemented only the grey tick for media and governmental organizations in order to distinguish between various accounts. However, it quickly withdrew them. Before only verified accounts of public figures like journalists, politicians, and well-known people could display the coveted blue check mark.

Background

Earlier, Musk decided to delay the introduction of the “Blue Verified” badge for Twitter after much commotion and confusion. The head of Twitter announced that until there is strong confidence that impersonation will stop, the $8 subscription plan will be suspended.

“Holding off the relaunch of Blue Verified until there is high confidence in stopping impersonation. Will probably use different color check for organizations than individuals (sic),” Musk tweeted on Tuesday.
