On Friday, Musk confirmed a major change to Twitter. “I am excited to welcome Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter!” he shared on the site. Yaccarino has deep ties with the advertising industry and will be focussing “primarily on business operations, while I focus on product design & new technology”. She worked at NBCUniversal for about 12 years, generating over $100 billion in ad sales since joining in 2011.

Last month, Yaccariono interviewed Elon Musk in Miami in front of several advertisers. As per LinkedIn, she previously served as NBC’s chair for client partnerships and advertising. Additionally, she also served as the president for cable entertainment and digital advertising sales. prior to this, she worked for almost two decades at Turner, a global entertainment company. Since Elon Musk took over Twitter, a lot has occurred. Restoring the advertiser’s faith in the platform is crucial at this stage.

A new CEO is the only way forward for the platform

For long Musk has been insisting that he is not the permanent CEO of the social media platform. “I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job,” he pledged in December following the request to step down from several Twitter users. In February, he hinted this would “probably be toward the end of this year”.

As per Jasmine Enberg, an Insider Intelligence analyst, “A new CEO is the only way forward for the platform”. “The single biggest problem with Twitter’s ad business was Elon Musk. As he steps back, Twitter can begin to unravel Musk’s personal brand from the company’s corporate image and attempt to regain trust among advertisers. The success of those efforts will depend on who takes over, but it’s difficult to imagine that the new CEO could be more controversial or damaging to Twitter’s ad business than Musk has been,” noted Enberg.

Additionally, according to Mark DiMassimo, the integration of Linda Yaccarino into the company, and her role in digitizing sales would be vital for Twitter’s growth. DiMassimo is the creative chief and founder of DiGo. “If anyone can translate the Musk vision into advantages for marketers she’ll be able to do it. Even though there’s skepticism and all marketers live in the ‘show me’ state right now with regard to Twitter, if in fact, she does go to Twitter this is a powerfully reassuring move,” stated DiMassimo.
