FIFA World Cup: Messi’s Argentina is staying in the student halls at the University of Qatar instead of luxurious 5-star hotels. Here’s why.

Instead of the luxurious 5m star hotels, Argentina’s Lionel Messi is staying alone at the student halls in Qatar’s World Cup camp. Here’s all you need to know.

Why is Argentina staying at the University of Qatar?

The front covers of the Spanish newspapers shared an interesting piece of information regarding Messi’s sleeping arrangements. The player usually shares his room with Sergio Aguero. However, since Aguero is not playing at the 2022 World Cup, Messi is going solo and staying in room B-201 at the University of Qatar. Moreover, the Messi-led Argentinian team is staying at the student halls instead of taking accommodation at luxurious 5-star hotels, as per sources, this is to carry on their tradition of beef barbecues.

“He will sleep alone, without company, for the first time in a FIFA competition. The next room, B-202, has Rodrigo and Ota, and B-204, which is opposite, has Paredes with Di María, who will surely go from one room to another for the traditional mateadas and matches,” revealed Goal.com

More on the traditional barbecues

Argentina is a fan favorite for lifting the trophy at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Despite their modest accommodation, the team will have no space to complain as this will let them have asados, the nation’s traditional barbecues to their heart’s content. (https://mva.la) “This is very important to the players and Argentines in general, it’s part of our culture. We want to make them feel at home while they are in Qatar and the best way to do this is to make sure that they get a taste of home while focusing on football,” stated a source close to the Argentina Football Association.

Reports also reveal they are flying in beef from Argentina for this very purpose. Additionally, an Argentinian asado chef will ensure the proper cooking of the barbecue.
