According to media sources, Twitter issued a legal threat to Meta Platforms, Facebook’s parent company, over its recently created Threads platform, unraveling the rivalry for social media supremacy.
Since its inception, Meta’s Threads platform has attracted over 30 million sign-ups. The app aims to compete with Elon Musk’s Twitter by using Instagram’s massive user base.
Twitter’s lawyer Alex Spiro warned Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a letter that the business intended to sue Meta if it does not stop utilizing Twitter’s trade secrets and confidential information, according to Reuters.
“Twitter intends to strictly enforce its intellectual property rights”
According to the letter, Meta has employed former Twitter employees who have access to sensitive information about the microblogging platform. “Twitter intends to strictly enforce its intellectual property rights, and demands that Meta take immediate steps to stop using any Twitter trade secrets or other highly confidential information,” Spiro wrote in the letter.
The report said that these hired employees “had and continue to have access to Twitter’s trade secrets and other highly confidential information.”
Meta intends to compete directly with Twitter while capitalizing on Instagram’s billions of users. It represents a substantial threat to Twitter’s market position. Threads users recognized many parallels between the two competitor platforms, however, Threads lacks a few essential features.
Despite its similarities to Twitter’s microblogging architecture, Threads does not offer keyword searches or direct communications.
While the user interface is similar to Twitter’s, the absence of these crucial functions distinguishes Threads from its competition.
According to Reuters, neither Meta nor Twitter has offered an official statement about the purported legal conflict.

Threads is an app for posting text updates and participating in public debates. Threads allows users to check in using their Instagram accounts and create posts with up to 500 characters. The software accepts a variety of media formats, including links, images, and videos of up to 5 minutes in length.

Meta released Threads for iOS and Android in over 100 countries on July 6, and users in those countries can download the app from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
