King Charles III’s Coronation: The Itinerary
Charles and Queen Consort Camilla will lead a King’s Procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey for the first Coronation in seven decades. The official Coronation will subsequently occur during a liturgy that will start at about 10:20 GMT (2:20 PT).
During the ceremony, King Charles III will be formally crowned, and his wife Camilla will assume the title of Queen Camilla. King Charles officially takes the throne at the Coronation, the first to be held in the UK since 1953. King Charles already held the title when his mother Queen Elizabeth II passed away in September. Since Queen Elizabeth II’s passing, Camilla has served as Queen Consort, but as of this weekend, she will simply be referred to as Queen Camilla.
Later, when scores of military aircraft pass by, the newly crowned King and Queen will wave to people for six minutes from the balcony of Buckingham Palace. Street parties are being planned all around the UK, and crowds are anticipated to line the streets of Central London to watch what will be the biggest military ceremonial exercise in seven decades. The next day, a live Coronation Concert will air on the BBC, while Monday is a Bank Holiday in the UK.
