AI chatbot takes over careers?

Since the debut of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, people are worried about the AI-powered chatbot taking over jobs in the future. The study by OpenAI, the University of Pennsylvania, and Open Research reveals jobs with a high risk of loss. Recently, OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman revealed he was “a little bit scared” of the invention. (brandxhuaraches) The study titled, “GPTs are GPTs: An early look at the labor market impact potential of large language models,” identifies the potential exposure to various careers.

According to the study, higher-paying jobs are more at risk than low-paying jobs. This means professions that do not require formal education are safe from ChatGPT. However, professions that demand programming and writing proficiency have a higher chance of being automated. Additionally, jobs with high reliance on critical and scientific thinking are less likely to be a victim.

More on jobs at risk from ChatGPT

People with professional degrees and employed in education, journalism, graphic design, finance, and engineering sectors will face a higher risk of being supplemented by ChatGPT. Professions such as mathematicians, financial quantitative analysts, tax preparers, digital and web interface designers, captioners, auditors, accountants, and administrative assistants are susceptible to automation. The AI-bot also puts writers, authors, copy markers, proofreaders, news analysts, journalists, and court reporters at risk.

Moreover, OpenAI’s newly launched GPT-4 exhibits a higher human-like performance on some academic and professional tasks. According to the makers, it is “more creative and collaborative than ever before.” Hence, they believe it can “solve difficult problems with greater accuracy” than its predecessors. “It is going to eliminate a lot of current jobs, that’s true. We can make much better ones. The reason to develop AI at all, in terms of impact on our lives and improving our lives upside, is this will be the greatest technology humanity has yet developed,” stated Altman.
