Breezy Explainer- Royal Family's line of succession after the death of Queen Elizabeth II

After the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the succession of the British monarchy has fallen to her son Charles, now the king. While the Queen was hailed for steering the British monarchy into the 21st century, all eyes will be on King Charles III and how he takes his mother’s legacy forward.

Who is next in succession to the monarchy?

1. Prince William, Duke of Cambridge

The first-born son of Princess Diana and Prince Charles is the heir apparent at this moment. He has been closely associated with a number of charities along with his wife – Kate Middleton. He also served in the British military from 2006 to 2013. Their three children follow him in the line of succession. Prince William is credited with bringing a more relaxed and personal approach to royal duties.

2. Prince George of Cambridge

Prince George, the oldest son of Prince William, became third in line to inherit the throne. He is currently attending Thomas’s Battersea school in south London.

3. Princess Charlotte of Cambridge

Princess Charlotte, the daughter of Prince William, is fourth in line and she also attends the same school as her older brother.

4. Prince Louis of Cambridge

Next in the line is Prince Louis, the youngest son of Prince William who was born in 2018.

Prince Harry

Queen’s grandson Harry and his wife Meghan Markle quit their royal duties in February last year. Previously, they had taken a step back from royal life and duties and relocated to the United States with their son Archie. Moreover, they also welcomed a baby girl and named her Lilibet Diana.

Anne

Elizabeth II and Prince Philip’s only daughter, Anne’s straight-talking style and unfussy demeanor have earned her high popularity ratings with the British public. She was the first British royal to compete in the Olympics, at the 1976 Montreal Games.
