Is it better to use an electric stove?

On Wednesday, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) chair stated banning gas stoves is not on the agenda. However, the chair was considering it. Alexander Hoehn-Saric, the CPSC chair stated the commission is researching the emissions generated by gas cooktops. However, some cities such as New York, Seattle, San Fransisco, and Los Angeles have banned appliances using gas in some newer buildings. Additionally, New York Governor Kathy Hochul proposed a ban for combating climate change.

“Switching from gas stoves to a more efficient electrical appliance is good for indoor air quality. It’s also good for climate change, and some of the newer technologies are even better for cooking,” stated John Levy. Levy is the chair of the Department of Environmental Health at Boston University. Moreover, switching to electronic appliances has several benefits for consumers. This is because gas stoves emit pollutants such as methane and nitrogen dioxide. Therefore, the pollutants can lead to leaks, posing health risks.

Gas stove vs electric stove: Pros and cons

As per Kimberly Palmer, the main difference between the two depends on how they are powered. Palmer is a personal finance expert at NerdWallet. “Gas ranges connect to a natural gas line or propane hookup. Electric ranges are plugged into a special outlet,” stated Palmer. “Electric stoves, in many cases, tend to perform better than gas. One of the induction ranges in our rating, a full 90% gets our top score for speed of heating, which is how quickly a stove can boil water,” she added.

Moreover, for anyone who wants to switch to electricity from gas, installation, and use are extremely easy. Moreover, consumers can also be eligible for rebates while purchasing new appliances such as cooktops and stoves. If you already have a gas stove, you need not worry. However, you can reduce the risks of pollution by improving ventilation.
