Tesla has decided to recall almost 1.1 million cars in the United States because of a problem with their windows. The window was closing too quickly in a number of situations that have been reported in recent months. As a result, several people suffered injuries when their fingers became stuck.
The issue was ascribed to the fact that windows’ response to any form of barrier is causing the software to accelerate the process, per the documents provided by the authorities. Tesla’s reaction was that they would soon provide a system update for the vehicles.
Tesla discovered the problem in the month of August
In August of this year, when doing production testing, Tesla discovered the problem. The manufacturer added that vehicles manufactured after September 13 already have the updated software.
Tesla said that it was not aware of any warranty claims, field reports, crashes, injuries, or deaths related to the recall. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said, “a closing window without the proper automatic reversing system may exert excessive force by pinching a driver or passenger before retracting, increasing the risk of injury.” It added that the vehicles failed to comply with the requirements of a federal motor vehicle safety standard on power windows.
The NHTSA stated that it was a “safety-standards infraction.” Moreover, it needs to be remedied, but the harm had already been done to the pre-existing vehicles. Tesla CEO Elon Musk was not happy with the development and criticized the use of the word “recall”.

“The terminology is outdated & inaccurate. This is a tiny over-the-air software update. To the best of our knowledge, there have been no injuries,” Musk tweeted in the aftermath of the announcement. According to a BBC story, the most recent recalls will affect all Tesla models. It also includes the Model S sedan, Model X SUV, Model Y SUV, and Model 3 SUV.
