A Tesla Cybertruck prototype was seen without any visible door handles. The prototype confirms Musk’s previous statement that physical handles would be redundant. Here’s all about the futuristic truck by Tesla.
Door handles: Yes or No?
The new-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class offers customers the option to get door handles that pop out when needed. While carmakers look for new ways to reinvent the door handle, Tesla moves a step ahead and removed all door handles on the new Tesla Cybertruck. The prototype of the Cybertruck featured door handles. However, Elon Musk later revealed that the Cybertruck would not have any handles. He added that the vehicle would recognize you as you approach the vehicle and open the door for you.
While Elon Musk does not want physical doors on the Cybertruck, there is a huge chance that the final production of the truck may have an alternate way to physically open the truck. After all, you will need another way to open the doors if it malfunctions.
Here’s why Musk wants to remove door handles from Tesla Cybertruck
According to the billionaire CEO, removing door handles will give the vehicle an overall cleaner look. It will also make it easy to manufacture door handles. Additionally, having no door handles will make a vehicle more aerodynamic and offer a wider range of speed. This is also why Mercedes offers flush door handles for its brand new S-Class cars. While Tesla already features the automatically opening doors in its Model X, this time they have the challenge of integrating and adapting it. After all, while Model X has physical handles that car users can interact with, the new pickup will lack them.
However, it is not just the Cybertruck. The refreshed Model S loses several physical controls. Luckily, they are not lost but merely replaced by commands. These commands can be issued from the central screen or through the steering wheel. Moreover, for vital functions such as gear selection, Tesla offers a secondary control method. This is to make sure that users have an alternative way to perform the functions.
