Six years ago, when Xiaomi launched its first electric scooter, it didn’t take much time for it to become the most popular e-scooter in the market. Not only did people love this amazing product for personal use, but the ride-sharing market welcomed this new addition to their line-up.
This is the first e-scooter that Bird, a U.S based transportation company, chose to feature in when they first came out with ride-sharing. Following that, almost all major ride-sharing companies that emerged in 2018-19 relied on the M365 Xiaomi scooter to build their fleets. It’s safe to say that the M365 helped launch what turned into the micro-mobility industry.
However, Xiaomi didn’t slow down after the initial success of its first-ever e-scooter. Also, they needed to address a few issues that riders faced with the M365 model, such as cracking rear fender joints due to lack of reinforcement and shaky handlebars.
Without holding back, in 2020, the Chinese tech giant launched an upgraded version named Mi Electric Scooter Pro, which was shortly followed by the Pro 2. There isn’t much difference between the latter and the former except for a couple of smart features. For instance, while the Pro model offers ECO mode with 15 km/h as the slowest driving mode, the Pro 2 features a Pedestrian mode with 5 km/h.
Also, the Pro versions feature significant upgrades over the Xiaomi M365. It has a more powerful motor. So it’s easier to ride up inclined surfaces without slowing down. Many e-scooter riders frequently come across this problem while riding in cities. Also, the Pro versions have a maximum range of 45 kilometres on a single charge compared to the discontinued model, which can only take you 30 kilometres on a full charge.
So, let’s take a closer look at the features of the upgraded version
The main new features include the smart app connection, multi-functional control panel, 45km long-range batteries and the 300 watt motor with a maximum output of 600 watts. You also get improved features, such as an electrically powered disc brake, shock-absorbing inflatable tires, and an alloy frame made out of aviation-grade aluminium.
Another set of great improvements that you can enjoy with the latest models is their design and build quality. At first glance, you could easily tell that it’s made of super solid and premium quality materials. As for its design and build, design engineers at Xiaomi have put in great efforts to make their e-scooter look sleeker and more compact. For instance, compared to the red flash cables on the M365, the latest versions’ cable setups and other fittings come in classy shades of black, which looks great.
Then we have the handlebars. Even though the handlebars are pretty much the same as the previous scooter, they now feel much firmer and sturdier to use. Also, there are reinforcement upgrades such as the bars that support the rear fender, which used to vibrate too much and crack the joints of the M365 model. There’s also the deck made out of high-quality rubber composite, which again comes in black, giving it a sleek and premium look with the minimal Mi branding in the centre. So, overall, they’re great upgrades compared to their previous model.
To Summarise
Not only did Xiaomi do a great job by upgrading the whole product to a better-performing machine, but it also improved many existing features to solve several common problems customers faced. With a sturdier build, better range, looks, and many smart features, the Mi Electric Scooter Pro and Pro 2 comprise a much better package for not so much of a price increase.
