Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), the British luxury carmaker, announced on Saturday that it would temporarily halt shipments to the United States during April in response to the latest tariffs imposed by the U.S. government under President Donald Trump.
Short-term action as long-term strategy develops
“The USA is an important market for JLR’s luxury brands. As we work to address the new trading terms with our business partners, we are enacting our short-term actions, including a shipment pause in April, as we develop our mid- to longer-term plans,” a Jaguar spokesperson said in a statement provided to AFP.
The decision comes as companies around the globe grapple with the impact of revived protectionist trade policies, which have affected various sectors, particularly automotive manufacturing and exports.
JLR, which is owned by India’s Tata Motors, has not yet disclosed the specific extent of the shipment delay or which models may be affected. However, the company emphasized that it remains committed to its U.S. market and is actively working on a sustainable path forward.
