Zeus, the tallest dog in the world, passes away from pneumonia after undergoing cancer surgery

The Great Dane, who set the Guinness World Record for tallest dog in 2022 at 1.046 m (3 ft 5.18 in), died after being diagnosed with bone cancer. According to his owner’s GoFundMe page, Zeus, a 3-year-old Great Dane from Bedford, Texas, died Tuesday after contracting pneumonia following his amputation on September 7.

“Our baby boy has died. Our hearts are shattered. “He had the best doctors who sat on the floor with us and cried,” Brittany Davis said. “He fought hard, but the pneumonia was too much for him.” He is no longer in anguish.”

Davis, the owner of Zeus, mentioned the Great Dane was diagnosed with bone cancer in August. Doctors informed Davis that Zeus would have his right front leg amputated. She launched a GoFundMe to help Zeus get the best physicians possible owing to the high cost of treating cancer in dogs. Her account stated that she raised $12,000, which was $8,000 less than her target. Zeus had surgery on September 7, and Davis reported that it went smoothly the next day. “He did so well,” Davis remarked. “He’s awake from anesthesia and on a lot of pain medication.”

Zeus was diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia after blood testing and chest X-rays revealed fluid and bacteria in his lungs

He’ll stay for the weekend, but he’s doing great and everyone already adores him.” Three days later, Davis received a phone call from physicians informing her that Zeus had some difficulties. “They noticed he didn’t want to eat and was more lethargic,” Davis said. “He had a slight fever last night, which has cleared, but he’s still lethargic. He also has some bluing around his mouth.”

Zeus was diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia after blood testing and chest X-rays revealed fluid and bacteria in his lungs. Doctors then gave him antibiotics that didn’t work. He was declared dead early Tuesday morning. Davis expressed gratitude to the medics involved when Zeus died in her arms. She stated that her heart is broken, but she is relieved that Zeus no longer has to suffer. “He had the absolute best doctors who sat on the floor and cried with us,” Davis said. “He fought hard, but the pneumonia was just too much. He is not in pain anymore. He is resting peacefully.”

Davis received Zeus as a gift from her brother, who had always wanted a Great Dane. He entered her life when he was 8 weeks old and quickly became an important member of the family. Davis described Zeus as kind, caring, and strong-willed, acknowledging that he would never force himself to do anything. He liked taking walks around the neighbourhood and going to the farmer’s market, as well as napping by the window. Zeus drew notice when walking the streets with Davis, but he rose to prominence when he was named the Guinness World Record holder for the tallest living male dog in March 2022.
