In the Wolong National Nature Reserve in Sichuan province, infrared cameras have acquired footage of the albino panda in the world approaching a mother panda and her youngster. In the video taken at the end of February, the albino panda approached the mother panda and the youngster that was sleeping in a hollow tree and indicated that it wanted to engage. The mother panda didn’t move and maintained her composure. The albino panda returned and smelled the area where the mother and her child had been when they eventually left.
The albino panda in the footage is about one to two years old, and the albino panda is nearly the size of an adult
“The cub in the footage is about one to two years old, and the albino panda is nearly the size of an adult. By the end of February, adult wild pandas in Wolong are in the estrus (mating) season, during which female pandas with cubs can be very aggressive when an adult panda approaches or invades,” said Wei Rongping, a senior engineer at the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Pandas. “This female panda was extremely calm and did not behave as expected. One possibility is that she is the mother of the all-white panda,” Wei added.
The administrator of the reserve claims that there are an additional 15 video recordings of the three pandas’ overlapping paths during a brief period. Approximately 2,000 meters above sea level in the Wolong National Nature Reserve, infrared cameras captured the first images of the unusual panda in April 2019. The wild giant panda was identified as an albino and was found to have red eyes and no markings. It is believed to be the only example of its kind.
