‘World’s Oldest Dog’ title suspended by Guinness World Records amid investigation

Guinness World Records has suspended the title of ‘world’s oldest dog’ pending an investigation. Bobi, a 31-year-old dog, lived on a farm in the rural village of Conqueiros, Portugal, with his owner and received the title in February. He was a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, a breed of livestock guard dog. He passed away in October.

However, according to Guinness World Records, some veterans are questioning his age.

We have decided to temporarily pause applications on both the record titles for Oldest Dog Living and Oldest Dog Ever: Guinness World Records

“While our review is ongoing, we have decided to temporarily pause applications on both the record titles for Oldest dog living & Oldest dog ever until all our findings are in place and have been communicated,” Guinness World Records told the media.

It was previously reported that he was registered in 1992 with the Municipality of Leiria’s Veterinary Medical Service, which confirmed his birth date.

A formal review is underway, and Guinness World Records has stated that they are reviewing existing evidence, seeking new evidence, and contacting experts associated with the original application.

A spokesperson confirmed that the title suspension is only temporary while the review is ongoing.

Spike, a Chihuahua mix from Camden, Ohio, previously set the world record for the oldest living dog on December 7, 2022. He was 23 years and 43 days old.
