The news regarding animal cruelty is not new to anyone. In a completely absurd incident that took place in the United Kingdom, a pet owner drugged the monkey with cocaine and flushed the monkey. Vicki Holland, the owner, is no more allowed to keep pets. The monkey is now recovering well in an animal sanctuary.

The news appeared after police found video footage of the woman abusing Milly, the marmoset. The animal had been rescued by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA). It was also housed at Dorset’s Monkey World Sanctuary. Milly was “very, very traumatised” when she first arrived at Monkey World, according to Dr Angela Cronin. But it was like a “light on” when she started mixing with other marmosets. Moon, a fellow marmoset, has already become a close companion to the animal.

Milly arrived at the park in January 2020, in what Monkey World interprets as one of the horrible cases the rescue centre has seen in more than 30 years. She initially hid in the back of her compartment and raised the alarm whenever a member of staff passed by. Milly was sceptical to believe the staff at Monkey World after witnessing Holland’s indescribable cruelty. The owner is facing 12-week jail term and suspension for a year.

Several documents of cruel behaviour have been acquired from all over the world. Numerous governments have also solidified guidelines and authorized legislation to rein in these actions. Not only that, but several associations around the world have made concerted measures for animal welfare in a variety of ways.
