Viral meme and cryptocurrency legend passes away
Kabosu, the beloved Shiba Inu who became an internet sensation and inspired the creation of the cryptocurrency Dogecoin, passed away peacefully on Friday.
“Today Kabosu, our community’s shared friend and inspiration, peacefully passed in the arms of her person,” the official Dogecoin account announced on X. “She was a being who knew only happiness and limitless love,” the post continued, highlighting Kabosu’s immense impact on fans worldwide.
Kabosu’s rise to fame
Kabosu’s rise to fame as the “Doge” meme sparked the creation of Dogecoin, originally intended as a joke but which has since grown into a major cryptocurrency. Her influence extended beyond Dogecoin, inspiring other dog-themed tokens like Shiba Inu (SHIB) and Floki (FLOKI).
The Dogecoin team urged people to honor Kabosu’s legacy and keep her spirit alive. “We are all fortunate for hers to have touched and shaped ours,” the post concluded.
A peaceful farewell
Kabosu’s owner shared that a farewell party for Kabosu will be held on Sunday, May 26, at Flower Kaori in Kotsu no Mori, Narita City, from 1 PM to 4 PM. The owner recounted that Kabosu enjoyed her rice and water the night before she passed, and she died peacefully in her sleep the next day while being lovingly stroked.
In a heartfelt blog post, Kabosu’s owner described her as “the happiest dog in the world,” expressing gratitude for the joy she brought into their life. Despite her diagnosis of leukemia and liver disease in 2022, Kabosu remained a source of happiness and inspiration until her final moments.
