Tramways in Indian cities

Kolkata

Trams are an important part of Kolkata's heritage, associated with the death of poets since 1881. They are a reminder of the city's past and should not be lost.

Mumbai

Tramways were introduced in Bombay in 1874 and 1907, and double-decker trams were introduced in 1964.

Kanpur

The Cawnpur tram system was opened in 1907 and closed in 1933, connecting the railway station to Sirsaya Ghat.

Chennai

Madras had the first electric tram system in India in 1895, but abandoned it after building 24 km of tracks and 97 cars by 1953.
