Sameer Rizvi saw fierce bidding from franchises when his name was announced in the auction room. Starting at a base price of Rs 20 lakh, Rizvi's price skyrocketed with CSK starting the bidding process, followed by Gujarat Titans.

The bid quickly reached Rs 1 crore and then exceeded the same. Neither of the teams wanted to back one wants to back down and fought it out till the end. CSK held on and bought Rizvi for a massive Rs 8.40 crore.

Speaking during the IPL mock auction on Jio Cinema, former India cricketer Abhinav Mukund revealed that he was told by an IPL scout that Rizvi is a right-handed Suresh Raina.

Former pacer RP Singh felt that Rizvi could be a perfect fit for Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2024 as they do not have a set finisher. LSG have a lot of strength in top order, but might need more support in the lower-order.

"Lucknow Super Giants might need someone as a finisher. They do have a lot of top-order batters and the finishers might need to be an Indian.

"Sameer Rizvi has a different intent in his batting. He would get a lot of confidence if he gets to play for an UP team. He is a Badoni-type player but plays with a straighter bat," Raina added about the player.
