Washington couple kills each other in violent fight as 11-year-old son plays video game in another room

In a devastating incident that shocked the community of Longview, Washington, a married couple’s domestic dispute turned fatal while their young son remained unknowingly immersed in video games in an adjacent room. The Halloween night tragedy has left investigators grappling with the sequence of events that led to both parents’ deaths.

Juan Antonio Alvarado Saenz, 38, and Cecilia Robles Ochoa, 39, inflicted fatal wounds on each other during a violent altercation in their kitchen on October 31. According to the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office, Alvarado Saenz succumbed to multiple stab wounds to the chest, while Robles Ochoa sustained both stab and gunshot injuries.

The couple’s 11-year-old son, wearing earbuds while playing video games, remained unaware of the deadly confrontation until making the horrific discovery later that evening. Upon finding his parents, the boy immediately contacted emergency services.

Investigation details

Investigators, working to piece together the tragic events, have been unable to determine which parent initiated the violence. The sheriff’s office revealed that a knife and a firearm were recovered at the scene. Further investigation uncovered that the gun had been stolen from Alvarado Saenz’s employer, a theft that wasn’t reported until after the incident.

The sheriff’s office disclosed that the couple had been experiencing relationship difficulties and were planning to separate, providing context to the tragic outcome. The location of the incident, approximately 50 miles north of Portland, Oregon, has become the focus of an ongoing investigation.

First responders, arriving at the scene following the boy’s 911 call, were unable to save either parent. The incident has deeply affected the Longview community, raising concerns about domestic violence and its impact on families.

Authorities have confirmed that the 11-year-old was the only other person present in the home during the incident. The case has highlighted the devastating consequences of domestic disputes and their impact on children.
