Tami Manis, from Tennessee, has a mullet that measures five feet and eight inches (172.72 centimeters).
According to Sky News, the Tennessee-based nurse has been growing her hair for 33 years and hasn’t had a haircut since 1990. She recalls the last time she chopped her hair, on February 9, 1990, and believes this date to be her mullet’s birthday.
What motivated her to keep the mullet for so long?
Manis claims she began growing her hair in the 1980s after being inspired by Til Tuesday’s “Voices Carry” video. She first developed a rat tail.
“The girl had a rat tail and I wanted one of those,” she said. However, in November 1989, a barber convinced Tami to cut the rat’s tail.
On February 9, 1990, she resumed growing out her hair, and the rest is history.
“I went to get my hair cut at a barber shop and the guy said that’s not my hairstyle and not good on me, but I was like, ‘Well, this is what I want.'”
Is her hairstyle causing conflict in her work and personal life?
Tami claims that the mullet has been a frequent topic of conversation among friends and family throughout the years.
For years, she was remembered for her world-record mullet.
“The weirdest thing I find is that people remember me from years ago,” said Tami. As per her, good genes are to thank for her amazing hair growth.
Tami, on the other hand, has to keep her hair braided because the mullet is longer than her.
