Ohio: Man shot dead by police after he threatened to kill his seven-year-old daughter

“I don’t want to go to heaven today,” 7-year-old’s plea captures heartbreaking moment

A tense family crisis in Medina County, Ohio, ended tragically when police fatally shot 43-year-old Charles Ryan Alexander during a standoff involving his seven-year-old daughter, Oaklynn. The November 11 incident unfolded after Alexander abducted his daughter, defying custody arrangements, and escalated into a dramatic confrontation.

Chilling 911 call reveals the crisis

A haunting 911 call documented the harrowing moments leading up to the tragedy. Armed and agitated, Alexander threatened to take both his and his daughter’s lives. Amid the chaos, Oaklynn’s trembling voice pleaded, “I don’t want to go to heaven today,” a cry that has resonated across the nation.

Police efforts to de-escalate

Dispatchers from the Medina County Sheriff’s Office worked tirelessly to calm Alexander, urging him to think of his daughter’s future. One dispatcher implored, “Let’s not do anything we can’t undo,” while another reminded him of his love for Oaklynn. Despite their best efforts, negotiations failed to prevent a devastating outcome.

Fatal ending

As the standoff reached a breaking point, officers were forced to use lethal force to protect Oaklynn. Alexander was pronounced dead at the scene, while Oaklynn was safely recovered, physically unharmed but deeply traumatized.
