Biden’s dog Commander just bit another Secret Service agent

Commander, President Joe Biden’s younger dog, has been involved in yet another White House biting incident. The 2-year-old German Shepherd bit a US Secret Service agent on Monday evening, the 11th confirmed incident involving the dog.

In a statement to CNN, USSS Chief of Communications Anthony Guglielmi explained, “Yesterday around 8 p.m., a Secret Service Uniformed Division police officer came in contact with a First Family pet and was bitten. The officer was treated by medical personnel on the complex.” Fortunately, the injured officer is reported to be doing well after speaking with Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle on Tuesday.

Eleven Secret Service agents have already reported being bitten by Biden’s dog Commander

This isn’t the first time Commander has been in the news for something like this. At least 11 cases of biting have occurred at the White House and in Delaware. In November 2022, a particularly serious incident resulted in an officer being hospitalized when Commander bit their arms and thighs.

According to records discovered in July, Commander bit Secret Service officials at the White House at least ten times between October 2022 and January 2023.

Eleven Secret Service agents have already reported being bitten by the dog.

In reaction to these occurrences, White House officials stated in July that the Bidens were establishing new Commander training and leash regulations. However, it is unknown whether any training took place, or whether any further action will be taken in light of another biting.

Major, the Bidens’ other German Shepherd, has previously been involved in biting incidents at the White House, leading to his removal in March 2021.

These dog-biting incidents have prompted questions about workplace safety at the White House

These incidents have also prompted questions about workplace safety at the White House. CNN commentator and former USSS agent Jonathan Wackrow commented on the matter, saying, “This isn’t a Secret Service thing. This is a workplace safety issue.” He further emphasized the seriousness of the issue, noting that while the Bidens undoubtedly love their dog, the repeated incidents pose a “significant hazard” to those working at the White House. Commander, the youngest of the two canines, bit a Secret Service agent in one incident. The agent had minor injuries as a result of the bite and was treated at the White House Medical Unit. On March 8, 2023, Commander was involved in another “biting incident” with a National Park Service employee. After being treated by the White House Medical Unit, the employee returned to work.

A Secret Service spokeswoman highlighted that the agency is concerned about the safety and well-being of its employees. They did not disclose any additional information regarding the accidents or any preventative actions. The spokeswoman, however, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for all White House staff.
