According to rumors, House arrest will be imposed on Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan on Friday night. This shift follows the Romanian court’s rejection of the prosecutor’s plea to keep Tate in police custody until the end of April. Eugen Constantin Vidineac, Tate’s attorney, revealed to Reuters that “the judges from the appeal court in Bucharest admitted our appeal and rejected the proposal of the prosecutors to extend the warrant and changed the measure to house arrest for all the defendants.”
The two brothers, Andrew Tate, 36, and Tristan Tate, 34, have been detained in pre-trial custody since their arrests in late December. According to earlier decisions, the brothers posed a flight risk and their release may compromise the investigation. They were detained for allegedly “creating an organized criminal group, human trafficking, and rape” along with two Romanian women.
Last Monday, their incarceration was prolonged once more, but an appeals court, as per AFP, “rejected the prosecution’s proposal to extend the pre-trial detention.”
The appeals court denied Tate’s request to be released on bond earlier this week.
“All four are getting out tonight,” Ramona Bolla, a spokesperson for Romania’s DIICOT anti-organized crime unit, told Reuters.
“The decision is final, the investigation continues,” he added.
Charges have been filed against the four suspects under Romanian law, but the matter has yet to go to trial and is still under investigation. The Tate brothers have been accused of enticing their putative victims with promises of a relationship or marriage, only to be blackmailed into making pornographic footage for social media platforms, which resulted in significant financial gain.
