“I have to focus on my mental health. I just think mental health is more prevalent in sports right now … we have to protect our minds and our bodies and not just go out and do what the world wants us to do,” she spoke in a press conference.
Biles’ withdrawal was first believed to be due to injuries. But remarks from the USA Team coach via NBC broadcast later suggested that it was a mental health issue. It was not a physical ailment. However, in an official statement, USA Gymnastics stated that it was a medical problem. All suspicions have been put to rest now that Biles has confirmed the reason for her removal.

In her absence, the American girls had to settle for silver in the event, with a final score of 166.096. To complete up the podium in Tokyo, ROC won the yellow metal with 169.528.
