Ryan Giggs, a former Manchester United player and ex-manager of Wales, was exonerated of the charges of assaulting his ex-girlfriend and her sister on Tuesday (July 18). The former player is extremely relieved by the development after the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) dropped its allegations during a hearing at Manchester Crown Court. All of these allegations of assaulting Kate Greville and her sister Emma were refuted by the 48-year-old Giggs. On all three counts, Judge Hilary Manley ruled that he was not guilty. Remember that the retrial was scheduled to begin at Manchester Crown Court on July 31.

After Kate Greville withdrew her cooperation from the case ahead of a scheduled re-trial in two weeks, Giggs was found not guilty of all charges. If found guilty, Giggs could have spent up to five years in prison. After a trial that took place in August of last year, the jury was unable to reach a consensus. Giggs was not present when the verdict was made known in court. Giggs’ four-week trial ended in a deadlock in August 2022 after the jury deliberated for more than 20 hours. The judge had already agreed that the former Wales manager did not have to be present for the discussions.
After the most recent ruling, Giggs’ defence attorney, Chris Daw KC, said, “Mr Giggs is genuinely glad that the case has now concluded after almost three years of fighting to clear his name. He now wants to start over as an innocent man and restore his life and career. Additionally, he denied allegations that he “lost control” and headbutted his ex-girlfriend, as well as attacking Emma, her sister, by elbowing her in the jaw on November 1, 2020, at his house in Worsley, Greater Manchester.
Giggs will be happy to have finally been exonerated of all accusations after a protracted legal struggle. With up to 963 appearances and 168 goals for Man United, the former football player is recognized as one of their best. Additionally, he played 64 times for Wales and then served as their interim manager before being detained in June 2022 in connection with the serious allegations made by his ex-girlfriend.
