The International Cricket Council (ICC) has set a large prize purse for the forthcoming men’s One-Day International World Cup, which begins on Friday, September 22 in India. The ICC One-Day International World Cup will begin in less than two weeks in India, as teams from around the world have begun to arrive. The prize money for the final will be shared by two teams, with the winner receiving $4 million. Prize money will be awarded to all ten teams competing in the tournament.

What is the monetary value of the prize?

The ICC will provide prize money from a total pool of $10 million, with the winner of each league stage match receiving $40,000 each. Teams who do not advance to the semifinals will get a $100,000 reward. In a novel decision, the ICC has stated that in the future, equal prize money will be distributed for both men’s and women’s competitions. The headline tournament will feature ten teams competing in a round-robin style for the league stage.

India qualified as the hosts for the ODI World Cup, while New Zealand, England, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Australia, Afghanistan, and South Africa advanced via the Super League stage. On the other hand, the Netherlands and Sri Lanka required qualifiers to enter the World Cup league stage. Interestingly, two-time champions West Indies are not represented, and Zimbabwe is also absent. Both teams failed to qualify for the World Cup via the playoffs.

World Cup 2023 schedule announced

A total of $1.8 million will be given for winning the 45 league matches, with $600,000 going to the six teams ousted in the league round. The losing semifinalists will each receive $800,000, for a total of $1.6 million. The runners-up will receive $2 million, with the winner taking home $4 million.

The competition will kick off on Thursday, October 5, with reigning champions England taking on New Zealand in a rematch of the 2019 final. The World Cup semifinals will be held in Mumbai and Kolkata, subject to temporary adjustments. If India advances to the World Cup semifinals without facing Pakistan, the match will be played in Mumbai; if India and Pakistan meet in the semifinals, the match will be played in Kolkata.

The ODI World Cup final will be held on November 19 at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
