Li Zhanying, a citizen of China’s Henan region, has been suffering from a strange sickness that prevents her from sleeping for even a second. For the past 40 years, the Chinese woman claims she hasn’t slept in 40 years. She hasn’t slept since she was about 5 or 6 years old.
Li’s spouse, Liu Suoquin, has backed up her illness claim. He claims that he has never seen his wife sleep after their marriage. Not only that, but Li spends his nights doing domestic chores to pass the time. Initially, Liu’s husband purchased sleeping medicines in the hopes of aiding her sleep, but these were similarly ineffective.
Li is immensely popular in her village, despite her tough life. People from the neighborhood stop by her house late at night to play cards with her and take Li’s test. After a period of time, the others fall asleep while Li remains awake.
Li has seen several doctors, but none of them have been able to provide her any helpful advice.
