Mercedes-Benz cars to have their own supercomputer brain, and a new OS

Mercedes-Benz and its vehicles will soon deliver supercomputer-like performance’ in every car, a first for the company, as well as a full suite of sensors. The move will aid the German company’s push toward self-driving vehicle mobility.

It will be a significant advancement above the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), a Level 2- partial autonomous capability that now powers Mercedes vehicles. The company is collaborating with Luminar, Nvidia, and other industry titans to fuel the car’s artificial intelligence capabilities.

“The decision to put in supercomputers [means Mercedes-Benz is] building a giant fleet of cars that will never get old. We’re building the safest supercomputer together – this car will be entirely upgradable. Mercedes Benz will be software-defined from end-to-end and will reinvent the company as a luxury-focused, software-driven technology company,” said Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia.

The business claims that MB.OS will power the car’s infotainment suite and autonomous driving features. It is a purpose-built software that aids the system by utilizing chip-to-cloud architecture.

From conference calls to gaming to music streaming, the new OS is expected to improve the consumer experience in the car.

“MB.OS all centers around a unique customer ID. The car knows you, it knows who you are… [and we believe in] privacy by design. We are transparent with our customers. In the Mercedes-Benz Centre, you can choose your settings,” Chief Executive Ola Kaellenius was quoted as saying by Top Gear. (Zolpidem)

“We have a philosophy, to work in the interests of the customer and we use the highest standards of encryption available in the market today.”

It is designed to improve the consumer experience in the cars

Kaellenius was alluding to the Chip-to-Cloud IoT (Internet of Things) engineering that would be available in upcoming Mercedes vehicles. The technology aids in the avoidance of hackers who seek to breach gadgets. The direct interaction with the cloud eliminates any entry points for bad actors.

With self-driving cars becoming more common, security and privacy from hackers have become critical. Mercedes-Benz is attempting to set industry standards.

Mercedes-Benz has also collaborated with Google to deliver enhanced navigation options. The agreement will allow Mercedes vehicles to obtain traffic intelligence and automatic rerouting on a far bigger scale.
