Tesla’s Cybertruck Faces Online Backlash
An online forum dedicated to mocking Tesla’s Cybertruck has amassed over 110,000 members following multiple recalls of the electric truck. The r/CyberStuck channel on Reddit is now among the top 2 percent of sub-Reddits, less than a year after the truck’s market debut.
Despite Tesla not disclosing exact shipment figures, the latest recall in April suggests fewer than 4,000 Cybertrucks were delivered between November 2023 and April 2024. This is a stark contrast to the 110,000+ r/CyberStuck members.
Community mockery and criticism
Described as “the place to post images of Cybercucks stuck in their Cybertrucks,” the community encourages sharing images and videos of the vehicle’s failures. The forum’s rules state: “No defending this hideous piece of road garbage… Go post on a Tesla sub if you want to defend it.”
One of the most popular posts, upvoted over 34,000 times, features a Cybertruck owner struggling to set up an awning at a campsite. Comments criticize the vehicle’s design and performance, with one user stating: “I am convinced that this vehicle was designed by people who have no truck experience.”
Founded in December 2023 by 56-year-old Alex Beattie, the forum was not intended as an attack on electric vehicles, Tesla, or Elon Musk. Beattie told SFGate, “It’s just general lighthearted mockery.”
Since its launch, the Cybertruck has faced multiple issues, including recalls for a faulty windscreen wiper and an accelerator pedal that could get stuck. Despite Musk’s claims that the stainless steel truck would be “apocalypse-proof,” the vehicle has struggled to live up to expectations.
